Abstract:
The current generation of tonne-scale liquid xenon time projection chambers have ruled out many candidates for particle dark matter. Using hydrogen instead of xenon as the target would improve kinematic matching and extend sensitivity to lighter dark matter. This is the HydroX concept, an idea to dissolve hydrogen into xenon experiments to serve as the intermediary between light dark matter and the liquid xenon sensor. HydroX would take advantage of the existing infrastructure, radiopurity, self-shielding, and veto capabilities of modern experiments. I will discuss signal generation in a mixture of hydrogen and liquid xenon, indicate paths towards a technical implementation, and present the sensitivity of such an upgrade.
