I will discuss recent progress on pulsar timing arrays and their potential to constrain gravitational physics in the nanohertz gravitational wave regime. Specifically, I will highlight my contributions to modeling the gravitational wave background signal, testing its Gaussianity, understanding the cosmic variance in the PTA context, and developing software to enhance the scientific output of PTAs, especially in light of forthcoming Square Kilometer Array observations.
