The TOPTIER CNS Summer School 2026 (TOPTIER-CNSSS26), jointly organized by the Top-Tier Platform in the Extremely Rare Isotope Science (TOPTIER) Project and the Center for Nuclear Study (CNS), The University of Tokyo, will take place from August 23 to 28, 2026, at the IBS Science and Culture Center in Daejeon, Republic of Korea

Since its inception in 2001, this annual event has focused on fostering the next generation of nuclear physicists across Asia. The school in 2026 is co-hosted by the Center for Nuclear Study at the University of Tokyo, Super Heavy Element Center (RCSHE), Center for Accelerator and Beam Applied Science (CABAS) at Kyushu University, with further support from ANPhA and the RIKEN Nishina Center.

The event will take place at the Science and Culture Center, situated in the IBS headquarters building in Daejeon. Its mission is to cultivate the next generation of nuclear physicists. Each day concludes with informal discussions in a welcoming atmosphere that encourages collaboration and deeper connections among participants.

The lecturers of TOPTIER-CNSSS26, listed in alphabetical order by surname, include:

  • Sunghoon Tony Ahn (IBS), "Experimental studies for explosive nucleo-synthesis"
  • Kyungyuk Chae (SKKU), "Advancing Nuclear Sensitivity Studies with Deep Learning"
  • Su Houng Lee (Yonsei Univ.), "Quark Model"
  • Haozhao Liang (University of Tokyo), "Machine Learning and Quantum Computing for Nuclear Structure”
  • Magnus Mager (CERN) “Quantum Sensing Detector”
  • Petr Navratil (TRIUMF/LLNL), "Ab Initio Calculations of Nuclear Reactions"
  • Shunji Nishimura (RIKEN), "Overview of RIBF and Related Topics"
  • Alexander Karl Rothkopf (Korea University), "Soft Skills-Scientific Presentation and Writing"
  • Noritake Shimizu (CNS, U of Tokyo), “Nuclear Shell Model Calculations and KSHELL Code”
  • Taeksu Shin (IBS), "Overview of RAON and New Opportunities"
  • Hiroshi Watanabe (IBS), "Nuclear structure studies by decay spectroscopy"

Continuing the tradition of previous summer schools, this year’s program will include Young Scientist Sessions, where Ph.D. students and postdoctoral researchers are invited to share their research. Outstanding presenters will receive the “TOPTIER-CNSSS Young Scientist Awards" and certificates of achievement. Among the awardees, the most exceptional presentation will be recognized with the ANPhA prize for Young Scientists.

We intend to offer limited financial support for accommodation and travel expenses, prioritizing participants who deliver oral presentations. If you wish to apply for support, please register by July 1.

We look forward to welcoming you to the school.

With best regards
