The puzzles of ultra-high energy cosmic rays

Ultra-high-energy cosmic rays are the most energetic particles reaching Earth from outer space. Where and how they are accelerated to such extreme energies remains one of the major unsolved mysteries in modern science. In this talk, I will introduce the basics of ultra-high-energy cosmic rays and review the major issues in the observational data, with a particular focus on anisotropy studies.
