Description

Axion electrodynamics is currently a strong contender for explaining the observed cosmic birefringence in the CMB. In this talk I will show that such a supergravity-inspired model can also be used to dynamically generate the (small) observed anisotropies in the Universe, which have recently been casting doubt on the LCDM model. In such a model, the axion is a natural dark-matter candidate, and the Universe is endowed with a primordial electric field which drives the evolution of the metric anisotropies through a non-trivial interaction between the the gravity sector and the U(1) gauge sector. I will also discuss generalisations to SU(2) and SU(3) gauge fields.
