Description

The xAct suite is a collection of Mathematica packages for efficient tensor algebra. With capabilities such as abstract tensor manipulation, components and charts, variational calculus, perturbation theory, and more, xAct is a powerful toolbox.

This workshop will cover the basic capabilities of the xAct suite. It will be highly interactive and will include several hands-on problem-solving sessions, as well as an external lecture. Topics include:

  • Basics of the Mathematica language
  • xAct: Working with manifolds, vectors, and tensors
  • xAct: Adding torsion
  • xAct: Variational calculus in two ways
  • xAct: Working with components
  • xAct: Perturbation theory
  • Advanced topics and applications
  • Common mistakes and problems

All lecture slides and Mathematica notebooks will be made public after the workshop.

Invited Speaker: Guillaume Faye, Institute d'Astrophysique (IAP), Paris, France

Organiser: Nils A. Nilsson (IBS CTPU-CGA)
