Description
In this work, we consider a dynamical compactification in a toy model. A Yang-Mills instanton solution on extra dimensions induces the dynamical compactification. The size of extra dimensions finally approaches the Planck scale, at which point the toy model based on Einstein gravity would break down. Our primary interest is in understanding how the quantum gravity effect can avoid this collapse situation. We introduce the Gauss-Bonnet interaction as an approximated quantum gravity effect to realize this collapsing situation. In addition, we consider a matter and study the interplay between the matter and the higher derivative term.
