CALL FOR Technical beam time Requests 2026
Purpose
The Institute for Rare Isotope Science (IRIS) invites proposals for Technical Beam Time Requests for domestic Korea users. This special call is not a standard Call for Proposals reviewed by the PAC, but intended to support
- Detector and instrumentation tests
- Pilot experiments to test feasibility of a new experiment or technique
- Machine study or characterization of new beams or experimental systems
- Any other technical activities requiring RAON beams
and will be scheduled for the period from April to November, 2026.
Conditions
The Technical Beam Time will be offered with the following conditions:
- Suitable beams and technical resources be available based on operation schedule
- Due to limited beam time availability, the allocation will be adjusted and decided by MTC(Machine Time Committee).
- A report of the experiment results must be submitted within 1 month of the experiment to the IRIS User Support Office.(user_support@ibs.re.kr)
Application
Spokespersons requesting beam time must submit the Technical Beam Time Request form to the IRIS User Support Office (irisproposals@ibs.re.kr) by February 13, 2026.
If necessary, the spokesperson of proposals will be required to give a short presentation at the IRIS Machine Time Committee (MTC) meeting.
Important dates
- February 2, 2026: Call for Technical Beam Time Requests
- February 13, 2026: Deadline for submission
- End of February 2 2026: MTC meeting
- March 2026: Notification of Approved Experiments
- April ~ November 2026: Experiment
The spokesperson for each proposal must register on the IBS indico page (https://indico.ibs.re.kr/e/TB2026) and complete submission form. The content of the proposal should not exceed 5 pages including the cover page, references, tables and figures. Use 12 point (Times or Calibri font) for the text. Proposals will be kept confidential but will be made available to IRIS staff for reviews.
Proposals are requested to include:
- Abstract
- Scientific motivation
- Goals of the proposed experiment
- Experimental details
- Summary
- References
Safety Review
The Safety Management Office at IRIS will review all proposals for safety issues.
