ASILS is a conference series initiated to encourage collaborations of Asian countries on intense laser science within the framework of Asian Intense Laser Network (AILN, currently chaired by Prof. Chang Hee Nam). The 1st Asian symposium on Intense Laser Science (ASILS) was held in Tokyo, Japan during June 18-19, 2004, followed by the kick-off committee meeting for the AILN establishment. From the second ASILS, ASILS2, held in Kochi, India on Jan. 22-27, 2006, the AILN has been in charge of running the ASILS symposium series. ASILS3 was held in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia on July 2-6, 2007 and ASILS4 in Gwangju, Korea on November 3-6, 2008. The 5th ASIAN SYMPOSIUM ON INTENSE LASER SCIENCE (ASILS5) was held on 2-5 December 2009 at Hanoi, the capital of Vietnam, ASILS6 in Beijing, China in 2010, ASILS7 in Tokyo, Japan in 2012, ASILS8 in Taipei, Taiwan in 2014, and ASILS9 in Ninh Binh City, Vietnam in 2016.
The 10th Asian Symposium on Intense Laser Science (ASILS10) was held on 10-13 March 2018 at the campus of the American University of Sharjah, in the United Arab Emirates. The 11th ASILS was held in Tianjin, China in 2020.
ASILS12 was supposed to be held in Singapore, in December this year. However, it is postponed by one year due to the COVID-19 pandemic. At the same time, it was decided to have online seminar series.
