The xAct suite is a collection of Mathematica packages for efficient tensor algebra. With capabilities such as abstract tensor manipulation, components and charts, variational calculus, perturbation theory, and more, xAct is a powerful toolbox.
This workshop will cover the basic capabilities of the xAct suite. It will be highly interactive and will include several hands-on problem-solving sessions, as well as an external lecture. Topics include:
- Basics of the Mathematica language
- xAct: Working with manifolds, vectors, and tensors
- xAct: Adding torsion
- xAct: Variational calculus in two ways
- xAct: Working with components
- xAct: Perturbation theory
- Advanced topics and applications
- Common mistakes and problems
All lecture slides and Mathematica notebooks will be made public after the workshop.
Invited Speaker: Guillaume Faye, Institute d'Astrophysique (IAP), Paris, France
