Description

The Rare Isotope Accelerator complex for ON-line experiments (RAON) at the Institute for Rare Isotope Science (IRIS) in Korea produces rare isotopes using an Isotope Separation On-Line (ISOL) facility. The ISOL system consists of a cyclotron, a target ion source (TIS) module system, a pre-mass separator, a rare isotope identification station, an RFQ cooler and buncher (RFQCB), an electron beam ion source charge breeder (EBIS-CB), and an A/q separator. The RAON ISOL facility (RISFAC) has adopted a module system to withstand the harsh radiation environment in the target area. This module system consists of the target ion source (TIS), rare isotope (RI) transport, and proton beam diagnostic modules. The module systems for rare isotope (RI) beam production and extraction have been installed and are currently in operation. Rare isotopes are produced in the target via proton-induced fission, using a 70-MeV proton beam from a cyclotron. The produced isotopes are identified at the Rare Isotope IDentification (RIID) station and a scintillator. Remote handling (RH) systems are responsible for the operation and maintenance of the module systems.
In this presentation, the performances of installed module, the characteristics of target, specifications of RH, and the results of RI beam extraction tests will be reported. Additionally, future development plans of target
