Geographically, Daejeon is located in the central region of the Korean Peninsula in the Far East region of the Northern Hemisphere. The city lies 167.3 km south from Seoul, and 238.2 km northwest of Busan. Daejeon borders the neighbor city of Gongju at Mt. Gyeryongsan (845 m), and Cheongju at Daecheong Dam. The metropolis sits in a basin with Mt. Sikjangsan to the east, Mt. Gubongsan to the west, Mt. Bomunsan to the south, and Yeonbong Peak of Mt. Gyejoksan to the north.
